Island Destinations for the Haute Voyager

Island Destinations’ newest catalog—Travelers Collection 2008—raises the luxury bar up yet another notch. With new travel options to the Seychelles and Grand Cayman and the addition of several new resorts taking their portfolio to over 111 five-star hotels…beware: travelers are likely to overdose on luxury.

Indeed, take one of the operator’s latest additions, the Fregate Island Private in the Seychelles. This 16-villa, Thai/Balinese-style retreat is the quintessential relaxation hotspot on the Indian Ocean. What makes this secluded locale so opulent? Fourteen of the villas sit on top of the cliff offering a panoramic view of the ocean; there’s the to-die-for Rock Spa (suggest the Coco de Mer Hot-Oil Wrap); and a major plus—for an intimate getaway—is that there are never more than 40 people on its 740 lush acres.

Other highlighted hotels in the catalog include Tortuga Bay, Dominican Republic; Cotton House, Grenadines; Royal Plantation, Jamaica; Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, Maldives; Likuliku Lagoon Resort, Fiji; and Rosewood Mayakoba, Mexico.

In July, Island Destinations formed a new partnership with eight Ritz-Carlton properties, expanding to the largest number of Ritz-Carlton properties it has ever offered—meaning more upscale options than ever before in Bermuda, The Bahamas, Costa Rica, Dubai, Mexico, French Polynesia, Fiji, Hawaii, the Maldives and throughout the Caribbean. Included among the new properties are: The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun; The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman; The Ritz-Carlton, San Juan Hotel, Spa & Casino; The Ritz-Carlton Golf & Spa Resort, Rose Hall, Jamaica; The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas; The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas; The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai; and The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua (coming in January 2008).

In addition to the new roster of plush accommodations in this year’s collection are the returning favorites, including Burj Al Arab, Dubai; One&Only Palmilla, Los Cabos, Mexico; and Bora Bora Cruises, French Polynesia.

Destinations’ President Maurice Bonham-Carter is as excited about the collection as anyone is. “We are thrilled to source the best and newest luxury island experiences in this year’s Travelers Collection for travel agents and their clients,” he says. “As always, we deal only with agents and are committed to providing the unequaled level of service and expertise they have come to expect from Island Destinations.”

And to cement their relationship with travel agents even further, from now through Dec. 15, 2007, Island Destinations is offering a $100 booking bonus for agents who book with them the first time; and “veteran” agents earn 16 percent commission on Tahiti, 15 percent on Hawaii, and all other destinations will earn an additional 1 percent. Just call to make your Island Destinations booking and mention the extra 1 percent commission and your commission will be adjusted upon confirmation of booking.
